Best Sports Field Mixes For Playground Surfaces

Best Play is a premium manufactured playing surface for Baseball and Softball infields. The basic ingredients provide a remarkably consistent playing surface that will last with care over three times longer than the competitive surfaces that utilize clay and cereal husk to bind the surface material.

The base material used exclusively by Custom Landscape Materials, LLC to produce Best Play is a RHYOLITE, an igneous, volcanic rock, that cooled slowly and resulted in a fine grain rock type that is uniform in nature.

This rock has been mined and processed to a two mil minus screen sizing.At our West Valley Rock location in Buckeye Arizona the rock is blended with “K” Binder, a proprietary polymer (a large molecule) with computer controlled volumetric mixer, which is more cost-and time-effective.

Three Active Ingredients Comprise the Polymer

Soil-cement
A highly compacted mixture of soil/aggregate, cement, and water
Surfactant
A substance that tends to reduce the surface tension of a liquid in which it is dissolved
Sodium polyacrylate
Also known as waterlock—it has the ability to absorb as much as 200 to 300 times its mass in water

Blending of the ingredients produces a homogenous product that ensures consistent bounce, minimizes spalling a superior moisture management, and excellent water wicking to handle flood events.

The reduction in maintenance time “prepping: the field allows field personnel to concentrate on other areas that always seem to be overlooked. The characteristic of Best Play eliminates the need for additives on the field like Turface, and other similar vitrified clay products. This saves time and money as well as preserving the integrity of the surface.
